The Mysterious Door Adventure
Today marks the start of our whole school Spring writing event, and what an exciting beginning it is! A mysterious door has suddenly appeared near the bottom playground, and the children are buzzing with ideas. Each class has had the chance to explore this intriguing portal and share their thoughts on where it might have come from and what fantastic world it could lead to.
It’s been brilliant to see their imaginations run wild, with ideas ranging from enchanted forests to realms inhabited by dragons. What a fantastic way to get our creative writing juices flowing across the whole school! I can hardly wait to read all the children's creative ideas about our mysterious door. Let the creative writing begin!
Swimming Gala
Today, Mr Clarke and I took our KS2 swimming squad to Bramcote Leisure Centre for our regional swimming gala. It felt quite different this year, competing at a new pool and against different schools, but that didn’t hold us back from giving it our all.
The children were absolutely incredible, putting in 100% effort in every race. More importantly, they really worked together as a team, demonstrating a spirit that was competitive yet kind. They were strong, empathetic, excited, and focused throughout the event.
All our hard work certainly paid off, as we finished a commendable 3rd out of 12 schools! A massive well done to everyone in the squad for their fantastic effort and talent. A big shout out to Mr Clarke for organising the races and to our parents for supporting and transporting us on the day. It was a fantastic experience for all involved!
Well done, Gilthill!
Mrs Allison
It’s been a fantastic week filled with Christmas celebrations! We kicked things off with our EYFS and KS1 Nativity performances, which were absolutely amazing. The children sang beautifully and delivered their lines with such poise, singing their songs with incredible flair and enthusiasm. It was a heartwarming sight to see everyone so engaged and in the festive spirit.
We also enjoyed our annual panto trip—oh no, we didn’t… oh yes, we did! This year’s performance of "Jack and the Beanstalk" certainly didn’t disappoint. The children were a complete delight to take along; they were so well-behaved and polite throughout the show. We’re truly proud of how they represented Gilthill so beautifully. It's these moments that truly showcase the wonderful spirit and talent of our children.
A Fantastic Evening at the PTA Firework Event!
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us for our PTA firework event on Friday! What a spectacular evening it turned out to be! We were treated to delicious food, fantastic dancing, engaging games and even a visit from a fire engine—what more could we ask for? The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the surprise appearance of a Minion, which brought smiles and giggles all around!
The parade of lanterns was a particular highlight; I was genuinely blown away by the creativity on display. Your efforts in designing and crafting those lanterns was fantastic. Congratulations to our winners—you all deserve a round of applause!
As if all that wasn’t enough, the night reached its crescendo with the fantastic firework display. It was a sight to behold!
I’d like to extend my deepest gratitude to our PTA for their hard work in organising and running this event, as well as to our dedicated staff who generously volunteered their time to help out throughout the evening. PTA fundraising plays a vital role in raising money for additional school funding, which supports such things as school trips and provides much-needed resources for our library and other areas in school.
Finally, a huge thank you to our parents and the community for your unwavering support. Together, we can achieve incredible things for our young people!
Here's what Mr Rippin, our year 4 Teacher had to say about the in school Viking day experience.
'A really lovely day today with our Year 3&4 History Day going down a storm.
The costumes were excellent!
The children were brilliant and really engaged with the stories, games and historical facts. We’ve learned so much about life back then, played some Viking games, wrote our names in runes and crafted some Anglo-Saxon inspired jewellery out of clay.'
This year, we celebrated our amazing children for achieving 100% attendance throughout the whole school year with an exciting trip to Pizza Express! The kids had a fantastic time as they rolled up their sleeves to make their very own pizzas, choosing from a variety of delicious toppings. It was wonderful to watch them enjoy their creations in the restaurant. A huge thank you to the team at Pizza Express Giltbrook for being such excellent hosts and providing a warm and welcoming atmosphere. It's truly fabulous to have such an involved local community supporting our school. Well done to all our one hundred percenters this year; your dedication has really paid off!
Our new library is up and running! Thank you to our fabulous PTA for helping us to fund this project. We couldn't provide these fabulous resources without the help of our supportive families.
Today, our children in Year 6 and Year 1 worked with our friends from The Primary Engineering Programme to create movable vehicles. The children loved making moving moon buggies and have really developed their design and technology skills. A special thank you to Mark from Eviosys for assisting our children today. He mentioned how polite and hardworking our children were!
International Day of Dance Celebration
This week has been very exciting at Gilthill as we've been gearing up for our International Day of Dance celebration. Our amazing little dancers have been practicing their moves and really embracing the 70’s disco vibes for the occasion. We even got a shout out on a National radio station this morning to cheer us on.
Here at Gilthill, we truly value the joy and benefits of dance and movement for our children's overall wellbeing, fitness, and motor skills development. It's all about enriching their learning experience with fun activities like this to foster a love for music.
A huge thank you to Miss Withe, who's been an absolute star in coordinating the event. She's been working tirelessly to select songs, create dance videos for each class, and bring everyone together for a fantastic flashmob in the playground.
The children and staff were fantastic, giving it their all with big smiles on their faces. Today was about creating lasting memories and celebrating as a school community. I couldn't be prouder of everyone at Gilthill.
Keep dancing Gilthill! 🌟
This term the children have are taking part in a Trust wide art project. Our theme is 'the elements' and our children have been using sculpture to design and make pieces linked to the elements. Here are a few samples. We can't wait until June when we display our finished products in the Nottingham Trent University art department.
