Assemblies and Collective Worship

At Gilthill Primary School, we have developed a bespoke programme of assemblies and collective celebrations that align with our school values, promoting the spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development of our pupils. Our assemblies provide clear guidance for pupils on how to grow up to be the best they can be by instilling values and fostering a sense of community.

Weekly Assembly Schedule:

  • Monday: Focus on reading for pleasure, sharing extracts from stories, poems, and biographies relevant to our community and beyond.
  • Tuesday: Picture News assembly, highlighting a topical news story from around the world and incorporating discussions on protected characteristics, British Values, and Rights Respecting School Rights.
  • Wednesday: Emphasis on British values, School values (we focus on one value per half term), and SMSC development.
  • Thursday: Assembly centred around the top news round story of the week.
  • Friday: ACE celebration assembly recognising ACE winners, ACE communicator winner from each class, courtesy cup winner, and lunchtime award winner.

Pupils also take part in:

  • Safeguarding assemblies
  • Music performance assemblies
  • School council-led assemblies
  • Safety assemblies

Our bespoke assembly programme aligns with the National Curriculum's requirements by providing opportunities for pupils to engage with a diverse range of topics, develop critical thinking skills, and nurture their social and emotional well-being. The focus on reading, current affairs, values, and recognition of achievements contributes to a holistic education that prepares our pupils for the challenges of the future.

The school's RE and PSHE curriculum provides links within lessons to the promotion of our spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. (SCARF mapping document link)
