Admissions to Gilthill Primary School

The school’s admission policy – first admissions into Reception year

This process is handled directly by the local authority. If you have a child who is due to start school in the September of the following year, you should receive a letter around November time.

All information you need can be found on the Nottinghamshire County Council Website.

School visits for parents of new admissions starting school in September 2025

We are conducting visits to the school in November 2024 for parents to come and look around and experience the Gilthill way! We want you to see Gilthill in action, to talk to our staff and pupils, and to ask any questions you may have. We have an increasing number of children being accepted from outside our catchment area; in fact, 34% of our 2024 intake was from beyond the catchment area. Therefore, whether you are within or outside our catchment area, if you are considering Gilthill, we would be delighted to hear from you. We have set dates in November for potential visits. Please refer to the attached leaflet for more information. Visits are by appointment only, so please contact the school office at office@gilthillprimary.org or call 0115 9190611 to book one of the allocated visit slots.

If these dates are unsuitable, we will do our best to accommodate additional visits, but these will need to be arranged by appointment only as the diary fills up quickly.

Nottinghamshire County Council Admissions Guide 2025-2026

Admissions to year groups other than the intake year

Applications for admission to other year groups will be considered in relation to the published admission number (PAN) which applied when the year group was first admitted to the school, subject to infant class size restrictions.  In some schools, changes in circumstances, such as the building of additional classrooms or as a result of teaching group organisation, will require the school and the LA to agree admission numbers which will apply to each year group.  The Local Education Officer will agree the detail of this should any issues arise. In the absence of an agreement, the PAN which applied when the year group was first admitted to the school will apply.  If places are available within the year group, applications will be considered in accordance with the current published admission criteria for admission to the school.  If places are available, the child will normally be admitted to the school.

In Year School Admissions

You may be wish to move your child to our school within a school year. This is possible, subject to available places. You must apply directly to the school using the admission form below.  Once the transfer has been agreed by both schools, providing there is space in the year group applied for, then a start date is decided and a transition process begins. This is normally within 15 school days of application.

If you would like to visit our school, please contact the office to arrange an appointment.
