Music
At Gilthill, we have a genuine love of music and recognise the significant role it plays in our creative curriculum. Music provides children with a platform to explore their thoughts and feelings, engage with various ethnicities and cultures, and aids in the development of their individual identities.
Our music curriculum is meticulously designed in alignment with the aims of the National Curriculum. The National Curriculum for Music strives to ensure that all pupils:
have established essential learning threads that permeate our music curriculum. These threads are revisited and deepened as students advance through the school, ensuring both progression and a profound understanding of music. Children engage in performing, composing, transcribing, and describing music.
We take immense pride in the musical talents of our pupils. Our peripatetic teachers provide expert instruction across various instruments, including drums, piano, and music technology. Regular performance assemblies offer students the opportunity to showcase their musical abilities.
We also teach samba drumming to all classes.
Throughout the year, we hold various music events: Reception presents a nativity at Christmas, while Year 3 and Year 4 participate in a Spring production. In the Summer Term, Years 5 and 6 present an end-of-year production. Additionally, we organise a music recital, inviting parents to witness the accomplishments of our instrumentalists.
