  • Panto Fun

Wed 14 Dec 2022 Mrs Allison

The whole school enjoyed a Christmas treat with a visit to the Pantomime. We went to see Dick Whittington at The Nottingham Playhouse and what a fabulous performance it was. The children thoroughly enjoyed the show with lots of laughter and joining in. They behaved impeccably and I really couldn’t be prouder of them all. Thank you to all the staff who helped to organise (along with a few familiar faces who joined us to help out on the day) and to the PTA who arranged half time refreshments. I think this might become an annual Gilthill outing!

  • Cross Country

Wed 23 Nov 2022 Mr Clarke

This week children across both Year 5 and 6 competed in the Broxtowe Cross Country Championship. In front of a busy crowd at Hall Park, Gilthill scooped up podium positions in every single race despite the drizzly and muddy conditions that caused one of our Year 6 runners to lose his shoe half way around the track! All children that competed did a tremendous job and ran terrifically, using all of their grit and determination to take them over the finish line. We would like to thank all parents/carers that took time out of their busy schedule to attend the event and support the children as they raced. We will keep you informed if another cross country event follows in the near future.

Here are the results from the competition

    Year 5 Girls – 1st
    Year 5 Boys – 3rd
    Year 6 Girls – 2nd
    Year 6 Boys – 2nd

    Well done Gilthill!

  • Year 5 class assembly

Thu 17 Nov 2022 Mrs Allison

The children in Year 5 preformed their assembly to their parents and the rest of the school today. They did a fantastic job.  The whole class were superb. They performed their lines beautifully and shared a really clear message about the importance of speaking out against bullying. As a whole school, we have worked on the acronym ‘stop’ (Several Times On Purpose) so all children can identify bullying and know to speak out if they need to.

  • Viking and Saxon Day in Year 3 and 4

Thu 10 Nov 2022 Mrs Allison

Our lower key stage 2 classes enjoyed a Viking and Saxon theme day in school today. This supported their curriculum work in history. The children became historians for the day. They played games, made brooches, looked at Viking and Saxon weapons and artefacts and even found out their Viking name! The children had a fantastic day and discovered so much new information to use in the rest of the topic.

  • Harvest Festival

Mon 07 Nov 2022 Mrs Allison

A huge thank you to everyone who donated items for our harvest festival. Reverend Barbara came in to school today to lead our harvest assembly. The children loved listening to her story and as a special treat, she brought her dog to meet the children. They loved giving him a stroke and a belly rub!

Thank you so much for your generous contributions to our collection for Eastwood food bank. We are all extremely grateful for your generosity.

  • Children in Need

Fri 04 Nov 2022 Mrs Allison

Thank you to everyone who signed a spot and donated £1 on Friday for the Big Learner Relay for Children In Need.

We managed to raise £115 for Children in Need. Well done everyone!

On the official Children in Need date, Friday 18th November, we are inviting children, if they wish, to come to school in non-school uniform with the theme of ‘spots’. Children can come dressed in any spotty clothes or a Pudsey bear top/t-shirt. Parents are welcome to bring in any additional donations to Children in Need on this day and we will add it to the running total raised.

  • PTA Firework Event

Thu 03 Nov 2022 Mrs Allison

    PTA Firework Event

This year has seen the return of our annual PTA firework event. A huge thank you to everyone who attended.  It was a wonderful event and so many parents have commented on how well organised and well attended it was.

Congratulations to our lantern winners and to those of you who were successful on the bottle and chocolate tombolas!

We raised an amazing £1,645 which will go towards our school fund, providing additional resources and experiences for our children.

Thank you to our wonderful PTA for organising and running the event and to all the staff and volunteers who worked so hard to make this event happen.

  • Year 6 Class Assembly

Thu 06 Oct 2022 Mrs Allison

The children in Year 6 started our annual class assemblies in style today. The whole class were superb with such beautiful singing (fabulous song choices) and a really clear message about the importance of British Values. All our children are kind, respectful and tolerant of each other and that really came across in this assembly. Well done Year 6. We are off to a great start!

  • Residential Visit Mill Adventure

Fri 30 Sep 2022 Mrs Allison

On 29th and 30th September, our Year 5 children visited the Mill Adventure Base. The children had an amazing time. They developed their independence, their resilience and their confidence. They took part in a variety of activities from Kata-canoeing and tunnelling to climbing and archery. All instructors at the base commented on how well behaved and polite our children were. They really did shine! Well done to all Year 5’s.

  • Reverend Barbara Assembly

Tue 27 Sep 2022 Mrs Allison

We were delighted to welcome back Reverend Barbara to our school assembly today. Pre-covid, Reverend Barbara used to visit school regularly to tell children stories in assembly and the children love it! Today, we welcomed Reverend Barbara back into school and the children really enjoyed listening to the story and the moral behind it.
