Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
This afternoon, we took some of our best scientists to an EMET science event held at The Belfry Hotel. Lots of EMET schools came together to showcase their work from British Science week.
Mr Rippin, our science lead, produced a fabulous display of the work produced throughout school. Our school representatives were respectful and knowledgeable and enjoyed exploring the science work from other schools.
It was a fantastic event and a great way to celebrate all things scientific!
M&M Theatre Production
This afternoon, M&M theatre productions came into school and transformed our hall into a magical stage for their production of The Hobbit. The whole school were mesmerised by the wonderful costumes and props...especially the spider!
What a fantastic treat for us all after a difficult couple of days.
A huge thank you to our PTA who funded the performance and to M&M Theatre productions for their wonderful performance, for getting the children involved and for bringing the magic of theatre to our school.
The children have loved celebrating World Book Day in their pyjamas! What a great way to enjoy, share and celebrate our favourite stories.
Some of the children in year 6 have designed and made their own World Book Day dress for this special day. We can't wait to showcase the rest of our World Book Day work in the school entrance.
Many thanks to all the parents who were able to come to our Book Cafes. They were a great success! Thank you to the PTA for serving refreshments and thank you to all of our parents for helping us share the magic of reading.
Yesterday, Gilthill's swimming team took part in the 2023 Eastwood and district sports association swimming gala. We competed against 5 other similar sized schools in the local area and we came 1st!
The children behaved impeccably and showed great sportsmanship, supporting their fellow team members and other schools.
Our team performed brilliantly on the day with most children getting through the heats round into the finals. Out of 19 races our team won 10 of them! We scored an impressive 79 points, which put us as overall winners of the competition.
An amazing team result for everyone involved. Well done Gilthill!
The children in Year 4 performed their Anglo-Saxon and Viking assembly to their parents and the rest of the school today. The children did an amazing job. They performed their lines, sang their songs and told us so many facts about the Anglo-Saxon and Viking times. A huge well done to Miss Jordan and her team for a fabulous class assembly.
In their French lessons, the children in Year 5 haver been writing their own lyrics to a French song. Today some of the children performed their songs to the class. What a fantastic performance it was. Madam Barnes is so pleased with how hard the children are working and what they are achieving in their French lessons.
The children are really enjoying our wheelchair basketball sessions. All children in school have the opportunity to practice their skills and are enjoying learning a new sport this half term. Great resilliance and team work Gilthill!
The whole school enjoyed a Christmas treat with a visit to the Pantomime. We went to see Dick Whittington at The Nottingham Playhouse and what a fabulous performance it was. The children thoroughly enjoyed the show with lots of laughter and joining in. They behaved impeccably and I really couldn’t be prouder of them all. Thank you to all the staff who helped to organise (along with a few familiar faces who joined us to help out on the day) and to the PTA who arranged half time refreshments. I think this might become an annual Gilthill outing!
This week children across both Year 5 and 6 competed in the Broxtowe Cross Country Championship. In front of a busy crowd at Hall Park, Gilthill scooped up podium positions in every single race despite the drizzly and muddy conditions that caused one of our Year 6 runners to lose his shoe half way around the track! All children that competed did a tremendous job and ran terrifically, using all of their grit and determination to take them over the finish line. We would like to thank all parents/carers that took time out of their busy schedule to attend the event and support the children as they raced. We will keep you informed if another cross country event follows in the near future.
Here are the results from the competition
Year 5 Girls – 1st
Year 5 Boys – 3rd
Year 6 Girls – 2nd
Year 6 Boys – 2nd
Well done Gilthill!
The children in Year 5 preformed their assembly to their parents and the rest of the school today. They did a fantastic job. The whole class were superb. They performed their lines beautifully and shared a really clear message about the importance of speaking out against bullying. As a whole school, we have worked on the acronym ‘stop’ (Several Times On Purpose) so all children can identify bullying and know to speak out if they need to.
