  • Wizard of Oz

Tue 27 Feb 2024 Mrs Allison

    Wizard of Oz

Today, we had a fantastic treat at Gilthill. The stars of M&M theatre productions performed their version of The Wizard of Oz for us.

It was a truly magical performance. From the sets to the costumes, the acting and singing were wonderful. We feel it is so important for our children to experience live performances and see their favourite stories come to life on stage.

The children thoroughly enjoyed it. They joined in with the singing and clapped along with the dancing. Even our very youngest children enjoyed the wicked witch!

A huge thank you to M&M theatre productions for their performance today and thank you to our PTA for funding the performance and ensuring our children can experience the magic of story brought to life!

  • Kimberley Swimming Gala

    Kimberley Swimming Gala

Today, our Gilthill Swimming Team competed in the District swimming gala at Kimberley Leisure Centre. This will be the last gala held at the centre, so our team was part of a little piece of local history! As always, Gilthill were model sportsmen and women, cheering on their team and showing respect and kindness to all. Every single member of the team gave their all and we had some fantastic personal bests! To top it all off, for the second year in a row, we came first, beating the second-place school by 16 points.

Well done to all the team and to Mr. Clarke and our helpers on the day. What a great achievement. Nottinghamshire County Swimming gala, here we come!

  • Author Visit

Wed 10 Jan 2024 Mrs Allison

Today we had the pleasure of welcoming an author to our school!

We’ve had an incredible day at Gilthill as we’ve had the privilege of hosting the talented author, Ross Montgomery! The children were buzzing with excitement as they gathered for a special assembly led by Ross himself.

Not only did our children get the chance to hear Ross's stories, but they also got the opportunity to participate in interactive workshops based on one of his books! 📖 The workshops allowed our children to delve deeper into the world of storytelling and writing, guided by a true expert.

Ross provided invaluable insights and shared his hints and tips on the art of writing books and creating captivating stories. Our young learners were inspired by his words, and it was wonderful to see their enthusiasm for becoming future authors themselves!

We want to extend a huge thank you to Ross for taking the time to visit our school and share his incredible stories with us. It was an absolute joy to see our children so excited about meeting a real author whose books they have read and enjoyed!

At Gilthill, nurturing a love for reading is one of our top priorities. We believe that Reading for Pleasure is not only a vital skill but also a gateway to broader horizons and lifelong learning. By providing opportunities like today's visit, we aim to develop cultural capital and instill the habit of reading for pleasure in our children.

  • Panto Fun

Thu 14 Dec 2023 Mrs Allison

On Thursday 14th December , our Year 1-6 children had a blast at our annual trip to the Pantomime to watch Cinderella. We all sang and danced along to our favourite Christmas songs, and even witnessed a magical snowfall! Parker had a star moment on stage, and Mr. Rippin caught the Pantomime Dame's eye - a truly memorable experience for all. The children were so well behaved showing how ready, respectful and safe they can be.

  • Year 3 4 Roman day

Thu 05 Oct 2023 Mrs Allison

The children had such a fantastic day learning about everything Roman. They learnt about the changes that Romans brought to Britain, including the Roman names of some British towns that they built. They learnt about the features and layouts of Roman towns and made their own outside. They learnt about inventions such as aqueducts for transporting water and they worked in teams to transport water with their own aqueducts.

On their Roman day they learnt about the lives and battles of Roman Legionaries and practised marching in formation with scutums (shields). They went to the forum and looked at artefacts, tried on clothes and wrote Roman letters. They learnt some Roman games and tried to be gladiators.

  • First Aid Training

Mon 18 Sep 2023 Mrs Allison

Today the children in Year 1, 3 and 5 took part in first aid training led by Mini First Aid. The children absolutely loved learning about how to keep themselves and each other safe and what they should do in an emergency situation.

  • Sports Day

Thu 20 Jul 2023 Mrs Allison

oday we finally managed to hosted our annual Gilthill Sports Day. Thankfully the rain stayed away and we were able to really enjoy the event.

The children were divided into seven teams representing different sporting personalities, and each team competed to earn points. In the week leading up to the event, we organised several pre-sports activities, which the children thoroughly enjoyed.

A huge thank you to Mr Clarke for coordinating the event, and to the entire staff for their assistance on the day. It was wonderful to have parents there to cheer us on. We would also like to express our thanks to our Governor helpers and to the PTA for providing refreshments.

Well done to our winners, Team Hamilton and to everyone for taking part and having fun!

  • Summer fair

Fri 14 Jul 2023 Mrs Allison

A huge thank you to everyone who braved the weather and came along to support our annual Summer Fair on Friday. Despite the weather, the fair was a huge success. I would like to thank the PTA for their hard work organising and running the event, as well as the staff team who helped out at the event. A special mention goes to Mrs Elmer and Mrs Love, who helped to organise their last PTA event with us as their children will be leaving Gilthill next week. We appreciate all of your hard work over the years.
