We’ve had the most wonderful ACE assembly today all based around celebrating World Book Day. It was such a joy to see the children arriving in their fantastic costumes and hearing them talk so proudly about their favourite book characters.

The enthusiasm across school has been brilliant, the children absolutely loved their oracy character battles in class, it was such a fun and creative way to share our love of reading. Even those who chose not to dress up (we know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea!) enjoyed chatting about the stories and characters they love.

A huge thank you to all our children and our amazing parents and carers, for getting involved and supporting school.

Today we took some of Gilthill’s finest runners to a Cross Country Competition at Wollaton Park and what an afternoon it was! Despite the rain, cold weather and very muddy conditions, our children showed incredible determination, grit and true Gilthill sportsmanship.

They gave their absolute best in every race, supported one another brilliantly and represented our school with pride. We couldn’t be prouder of them all.

A huge well done to every single runner and an extra special congratulations to Harper, who came first in her race — an amazing achievement!

As always, a big thank you to Mr Clarke for organising and supporting the team and to all the parents who helped with transport and braved the rain and mud to cheer us on. It’s a good job we love cross country!

Well done, Team Gilthill!

Internet Safety Day

Today is Internet Safety Day. We will be having a whole school assembly today and working on activities in our classrooms. Here's a message from our Computing Lead, Mr Rippin.

Internet Safety Day 2026 – Supporting Children in an AI World

Internet Safety Day 2026 highlights the growing role of artificial intelligence (AI) in children’s online lives and the increased need for vigilance, guidance and shared responsibility between schools and families.

AI now influences what children see, watch and play online – from video recommendations and social media feeds to gaming and streaming platforms.

While technology offers exciting learning opportunities, it also makes it more important than ever that children are monitored, supported, and protected when online.

At Gilthill we are committed to helping our pupils navigate this fast-evolving landscape with confidence and critical thinking, and we ask all parents and carers to help us in ensuring our children remain safe and supported online:

Increased Vigilance: Talk to your child about what they are doing online. Ask them to show you the AI tools they might be using and the content they are creating.
Parental Controls: Ensure Parental Controls are active on all devices, including smart TVs, gaming consoles, and voice assistants, to block inappropriate or unvetted content.
Age-Appropriate Access: Only allow access to platforms and apps that are parent-vetted and meet official age ratings.
Monitoring & Mentoring: Regularly monitor your child's online interactions. Help them understand that while AI can be a helpful tool, not everything they see or hear online is real or reliable.

By working together, we can help children develop safe, confident and positive digital habits in an increasingly AI-driven world.

Thank you. Please enter an introduction for your news story here.

The tables were set, the crackers laid, and the gravy simmered away. As the children started to walk down the stairs to the hall, the Christmas music began, and the smiles appeared. It can mean only one thing… Christmas Dinner Day!

What a fantastic time we had. Turkey with all the trimmings followed by a Christmas cupcake and a cracker to pull with friends made for a wonderful celebration.

A huge thank you to Mrs Staton and our kitchen crew for all their hard work preparing and serving. Thanks also to the office team, our governors, and staff helpers for setting up the hall, and to our staff team for assisting with serving and clearing. It truly was a team effort. The children had a great time and were so well-behaved and courteous. What a wonderful Gilthill Christmas Dinner Day!

What a fantastic day we had at the panto! The stage was set, the lights went down, and the show began! Oh no, it didn’t… oh yes, it did!

The children loved every minute, from the songs and dancing to the evil Maleficent and her fiery dragon. I am so proud of our Gilthill lot for their excellent behaviour and conduct outside of school. They were kind and respectful, truly joining in with the panto fun. Well done to Reign for taking to the stage and helping out with one of the songs too.

A huge thank you to all the staff and adult helpers, including governors and parents, who gave up their time to help us out. I also want to thank Mrs Langmaid for her super organisation skills and making sure everything ran smoothly.

The stage was set, the tinsel halos were made, and it can only mean one thing… it’s Christmas Nativity time at Gilthill! On Tuesday 9th, our Reception children dazzled us with their performance of ‘It’s a Baby!’ What a fantastic show it was! We were treated to singing, dancing, beautiful costumes, and superb speaking parts. Mrs Cregan and her team sprinkled her unique Christmas magic, using her skill and patience to create a truly magical performance for our parents. Well done, Reception!

On Wednesday 10th, it was the turn of our KS1 children, who presented their nativity play, ‘Knock, Knock Nativity.’ It certainly was a cracker, filled with singing, dancing, and the odd Christmas joke! We witnessed fantastic speaking parts showcasing our oracy skills, a solo song, and even some sign language for the songs. Beautiful! A huge thank you to Mrs Langmaid, Mr Clarke and their team for their hard work in bringing it all together. I am so proud of you all. Merry Christmas, everyone!

After a soggy start, the clouds cleared a little, and we were able to enjoy our annual sports day! It is such a well-loved event at Gilthill, and we certainly weren’t going to let a bit of drizzle spoil our fun. The children were absolutely fabulous at cheering each other on, and our Year 6's did a brilliant job of helping out. All week, we’ve been completing sports events to gain points for our teams, and today was the final push for those extra points.
